Statement on Wellbeing, Inclusion, Diversity and Equity (WIDE)
The Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence is dedicated to encouraging a supportive and inclusive culture amongst everyone working with us. Our aim is to promote diversity, prevent discrimination, and provide fairness and equality to everyone working with us.
Our Wellbeing, Inclusion, Diversity and Equality (WIDE) working group meets regularly to develop policies and initiatives in pursuit of these aims. In recent years, this group has, among other things, developed guidelines for inclusive event organising, written a statement on workplace accommodations for our staff handbook and organised Mental Health Awareness and Mental Health First Aid training for many members of staff.
The following policy reinforces our commitment to these aims. (See also the general University of Cambridge Equal Opportunities Policy).
We will not provide less favourable facilities or treatment on the grounds of age, disability, gender, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, ethnic origin, nationality, national origin, religion or belief, or sex and sexual orientation. We are opposed to all forms of unfair discrimination.
All employees, students, colleagues and other affiliates of the Centre will be treated fairly and with respect. When we select candidates for employment, promotion, training, or any other benefit, it will be on the basis of their aptitude and ability. All employees will be given help and encouragement to develop their potential.
- to create an environment in which individual differences and the contributions of all team members are recognised and respected;
to create a working environment that promotes dignity and respect for every employee;
- to not tolerate any form of intimidation, bullying, or harassment;
to encourage anyone who feels they have been subject to discrimination, intimidation, bullying or harassment to raise their concerns so we can apply corrective measures;
- to make training, development, and progression opportunities available to all staff;
- to promote equality in the workplace;
- to encourage employees to treat everyone with kindness, dignity and respect;
- to regularly review all our employment practices and procedures so that fairness is maintained at all times.
The Centre will inform all employees that an equality and diversity policy is in operation and that they are obliged to comply with its requirements and promote fairness in the workplace. The policy will also be drawn to the attention of funding agencies, stakeholders, customers, students, and job applicants.
