Biography

Coming from a background in philosophy and cognitive science, I am interested in the relation between mind and (grey) matter. Specifically, for my PhD I combine tools from information theory, network science and computational modelling to study the brain across a variety of states of altered consciousness – from brain injury and anaesthesia to psychedelics. The goal of this work is to develop a theoretically principled understanding of how consciousness is lost, and how we can promote its recovery in patients. More broadly, I am interested in how the complex interactions between different kinds of information enable the emergence of cognition – whether in humans, animals or machines.
